The New York State Chapter of the National Association
of Minority Contractors [NYSAMC], which is located in the
Brooklyn Navy Yard, is a non-profit corporation with the mission
of advancing and promoting the mutual interests of minority
and women contracting firms based in the State of New York.
NYSAMC is the NYS Chapter of the National Association of Minority
Contractors, which is headquartered in Washington DC.
CORE SERVICES
- Provide technical and management training to minority
contractors to help better prepare them for competitive
bidding opportunities
- Advocate for and actively participate in local, state
and federal government initiatives and programs which advance
the concerns of minority contractors and seek to remove
barriers to work opportunities
- Promote the economic interests of minority contracting
firms by gaining an equitable share of procurement and business
opportunities for them
- Build bridges between minority contractors and the parties
and institutions with which they work including financial,
business, and trade institutions,
- Create a forum for sharing information, while developing
and maintaining the highest professional standards and mutual
support
NYSAMC is associated with several other minority contracting
associations throughout the State including: Black Minority
Coalition (Binghamton); Capital District Minority Contractors
Association (Albany); Western New York African American Business
Association (Buffalo); and Central New York Minority Contractors
Association (Syracuse) .
NYSAMC membership consists mainly of minority and woman owned
firms in construction and related industries throughout New
York State for which it provides a wide range of critical
services including a full schedule of training, financing
and bonding referrals and paperwork assistance, legislation
advocacy, government and union relations, workforce recruitment,
contracting opportunity development, a plan room and a bi-monthly
newsletter.
NYSAMC prides itself on amicable, close working relationships
with several government agencies in New York State and with
the major companies in private construction management and
general contracting, as well as the other NYC-based professional
trade organizations, technical assistance organizations and
City, State and Federal construction agencies.
As part of its three-year strategic business plan, NYSAMC
has set a key objective to broaden its board of directors
to include private industry members from major construction
companies. Other important milestones in the strategic plan
include restructuring the By-Laws to accommodate changes to
the board of directors and operating procedures; expanding
membership to include greater representation of Asian and
Hispanic-owned businesses. Recently it instituted a year-round
professional training schedule in collaboration with The Regional
Alliance for Small Contractors. NYSAMC has also expanded its
offices to include a training and Plan Room/PID service and
facility.
